Our founder, Ben Field, brings a wealth of experience and craftsmanship to every project.

Ben began his journey in construction by working for custom home builders in the Kingston area. He then went on to study Timber Framing at the College of the Rockies, under renowned master timber framer Joe Gex-Collet.  He developed a passion for traditional craftsmanship and  historical building techniques. From there, he honed his skills working with a premier custom home builder in British Columbia, specializing in high-end luxury homes across North America. To further refine his expertise, Ben earned a Construction Project Management diploma from Brighton College, giving him the tools to lead projects with both creativity and efficiency.

After years of building in Western Canada, Ben saw a unique opportunity in the 1000 Islands area—a need for a high-end custom home builder committed to quality, detail, and longevity. That vision led to the creation of Big Waters Building and Design, where we craft homes that reflect both the beauty of the region and the unique style of each homeowner.
